Nahanni National Park and Yellowknife

Spectacular Natural Scenery

Nahanni National Park, NWT offers some of the most varied and spectacular natural scenery imaginable — towering mountains and tundra plains, wetlands and sand dunes, badlands and luxuriant forests, grizzly bears and trumpeter swans. There are steaming hot springs and complexes of caves, some lined with ice crystals, others with colourful stalagmites and stalactites.

The great South Nahanni River dominates the region, this amazing river is a mix of tranquil water, frenzied rapids and whirlpools set in valley of stunning beauty. Virginia Falls are twice the height of Niagara, the power, force and noise of the falls has to be experienced. There is no river in North America quite like the Nahanni. Today, remarkably, nothing has changed. There are no roads or communities, it is a wilderness largely unspoiled by humans and seldom seen by visitors.
